Are Senior Portraits really all that important?

June 06, 2016  •  3 Comments

Short answer... Yes!

Now I'm sure you're thinking "well of course you're going to say yes, that's your business!"

True... it IS my business! However! My business is based upon giving you the best experience possible while capturing some very important memories. Why? Because it's more than just a business to me. Photography is my passion.

So let's talk about this. Grab some coffee (or tea), find a comfy spot, and keep reading because we're going to chat about why I feel Senior Portraits are important to not just me and my business, but why they are important for YOU as well!

For you seniors (or soon to be seniors), have you ever been in a group of adults chatting away about the "good ol' days" back in high school, reminiscing about the things they used to do with their friends etc? Ever gotten the "When I was your age..." speech? Yeah yeah, we've all been there. Why? Why do they do this, why do they bring all of this up and sometimes bring it up frequently? Because... it's some of the strongest memories they/we have of our younger years.

Sure, I have a couple memories here and there about elementary school and middle school, but I'll be honest. It's a bit sketchy! Most of my big and important memories from growing up is in high school! That's where it all happened!

For us adults, that's where we knew our best friend would always be there and who our true friends really were. It's where we started to really come to grips about what we wanted to do when we graduated so we could decide on what college we wanted to attend, or if we even wanted to attend college! It's where a lot of us met our first love! It's where we learned how to drive, how to be sociable in front of people. It's when we got our first jobs! It's where a lot of us made some HUGE mistakes and had to learn the hard way, but it's also where we made some really good choices too... and be it mistakes or good choices, we learned and it had a huge part to play in who we are today.

Now think for a minute...

Are you going through any of these things? Are you currently creating any of those memories? If the answer is yes, believe me, when you become an adult, you too will be sharing these things with younger generations whether it's your kids, siblings kids etc. You will also look back and laugh and maybe even cry! Those friends who you made in school and who are still by your side many years after high school will be there, going through these memories with you like it was a text book laid open in front of you.

Now adults! Let me talk to you for a minute! When is the last time you looked at your senior pictures from high school? For some of you, it might be just recently. A conversation brought up between you and your teen, senior year fast approaching, your little girl or little boy all grown up now... too fast! Memories of your own from high school flooding your mind, the photo album comes out, pops open on the table and there it is. Your high school senior portraits.

And then it happens. You hear giggling or snickers from your soon to be adult sitting next to you. "Look at your hair!!! What were you wearing? Oh. My. Gosh. That's you? HA! I'm snap-chatting that to ALL my friends!" Or maybe it's "wow... you look so good! I want my senior pictures to look like that" or "I look just like you did when you were in high school! Crazy!".

So why do you still hold onto that portrait from so long ago?

Why do we hold onto any portrait?

Memories.

These are going to be some of the most important years of your life. It's my job to preserve that for you so that years down the road, you too can look back and remember that care-free, high spirited young woman or young man who knew it all, or that cautious well focused person... whoever you are or however you describe you... you can look back on that "kid" who molded who you are today and smile as those memories flood your mind.

Who you are is important. Who you will be is important.

Let's go capture your unique you.
